What “left-hand friendly” means
Handedness is more than a label. We record ejection direction separately from stock fit, safety position and opening controls. The three tiers describe the kind of accommodation, not a recommendation or quality ranking.
Tier 1: Dedicated left-hand ejection
Purpose-built left-hand versions eject spent shells to the left. Choose the specific LH model; the standard version may eject right.
Tier 2: Left-hand stock & opening lever
Factory stock shape or an opening-lever option accommodates the left shoulder and hand. Break-action guns release shells at the open breech, not through a left-side ejection port.
Tier 3: Ambidextrous & adaptable designs
Bottom ejection, shared controls, adjustable fit, or factory conversion can help left-handed shooters. Some of these guns still eject right; each listing tells you which.
Read the ejection label first
“Ejects left” means spent shells exit on the left of the repeating action. “Ejects downward” means they leave below the receiver. “Ejects right” remains true even if the gun has a reversible safety, a top-tang safety, or a stock adjusted for the left shoulder.
A break-action shotgun opens at the breech to extract or eject shells. Its LH stock or lever is a fit or control feature, not a left-side ejection port. A convertible model is labeled with the required conversion rather than counted as an off-the-shelf left-eject gun.
What a listing confirms
“Manufacturer listed” means documentation identifies the family or offering. “Factory option” means the buyer must specify the LH configuration. Neither label promises stock at a retailer. Model families can contain both left- and right-hand versions, so a classification applies only to the version named in the listing.
Unconfirmed candidates are available through the listing-status filter and carry a visible notice on both cards and detail pages. They may have unresolved U.S. import availability, current production status, or handedness details. They are excluded from the default results and search-engine sitemap.
Scope & sources
The directory covers the U.S. market and normal factory production or dealer-order options. Custom-builder-only offerings and one-off gunsmith builds are excluded. Documented discontinued-only guns, such as Browning BPS, are outside the current shotgun catalog.
